Products

Where are your products made?

All of our products are made by hand in Manhattan, New York City.

Who makes your products?

All of our designs begin in wax, which are hand-carved by our founder, Lauren. We work with a small, family-run casting house that then casts all of these designs into precious metal. From there, each piece is polished and finished by Lauren.

What materials do you use?

All of the pieces at Saint Fig are made with ethical metals. We offer two varieties of metal: SCS Certified recycled precious metal in pure gold/sterling silver or Certified Fairmined Gold in 14 karat gold.

Our gemstones are mostly sourced from vintage pieces or local gem dealers encountered across our founder's travels. When we need to source new gemstones, we do so from responsible suppliers that work with small-scale, artisanal miners and their communities.

What is the difference between gold plated, gold-filled, and pure gold?

Gold plated is a gold coating over any base metal. The ideal base is sterling silver but most plated pieces on the market use cheap metals. Gold plating will wear off over time to reveal the base metal. This is why some jewelry that looks gold may eventually turn copper or silver an can leave green or black marks on the skin.

Gold-filled is a thin layer of gold bonded to a base of brass. It is called "gold-filled" because the color of the brass base is also gold. Gold filled is stronger and higher quality than gold plated, but it will still wear over time. Some people may experience faster fading of the bright gold color depending on the pH balance of their skin and other factors like products used, exposure to sweat, chlorine, varying water/environmental components, etc.

Solid gold is exactly what it sounds like - true gold. It is the highest quality and longest lasting material for jewelry. The karat level of gold indicates the ratio of pure gold mixed with other pure metals. The higher the karat, the brighter the yellow color and the softer the metal. Pure metals can also be melted down to create a new piece, extending the lifecycle of the metal without requiring new mining; plated and gold-filled pieces cannot.

We work in 10K and 14K (higher karats on request) as these offer the buttery gold color with premium strength and longevity.

Are any of your products plated?

No nippity nope! Plating (in our opinion) is a cheap way to dress up low quality base metals that don't last and can harm the skin and the planet. All of our pieces are made using pure sterling silver, 10K or 14K gold. No plating, filling, nipping, tucking. Nada.

I have skin allergies. Are your pieces safe to wear?

All of our pieces are made using sterling silver, pure10K or 14K gold and should not cause a negative reaction.

If you have any other concerns or would like to place a custom order in a specific metal, email us at hello@saintfig.co. You know your skin best.

Is your packaging recyclable?

You betcha! All of our packaging is made using recycled or compostable materials and is curb-side recyclable. Our compostable packaging is made from renewable plant-based materials, and/or bio-polymers. To be certified home compostable, a product must break down in home compost within 90 and 180 days in commercial composting conditions. To learn more, click here.

Jewelry Care

How should I care for my jewelry?

As a general rule, the better you care for your jewelry, the longer it will last! Our pieces are made of solid gold or silver but we still recommend taking off your jewelry for certain activities such as cleaning, swimming, and exercise.

Try to avoid letting your pieces come into contact with harsh chemicals such as bleach, chlorine, etc. Keep creams and sprays well away from your jewelry too, as they are particularly susceptible to damage from the effects of chemicals in perfume, hairspray, make-up, nail polish remover, body oils, sunscreen, and deodorant.

How should I store my jewelry?

Jewelry is best stored in a cool, dark and dry place where it is safe from the elements. Storing your pieces individually in soft pouches will also help to avoid scratching and retain shine.

Sterling silver in particular will naturally oxidize over time when exposed to air, and eventually tarnish - but don't worry, you can polish it right back up! The best prevention for this is to store it in a sealed bag or airtight box when not being worn. We recommend occasional cleaning of your silver jewelry to maintain shine and keep oxidation at bay.

We provide a vegan suede pouch with every order to help you keep your pieces brilliant and scratch-free.

Can I wear my jewelry in the shower, at the gym, etc.?

All of our pieces are made with 100% fine metals - no plating, filling, vermeil - no nonense. This means that they can technically be worn in water without fear of tarnishing. However, we still recommend taking off your jewelry for certain activities such as cleaning, swimming, and exercise and to avoid letting your pieces come into contact with harsh chemicals such as bleach, chlorine, etc. This will extend the lifetime of your pieces and ensure they stay in pristine condition.

How should I clean my jewelry?

Jewelry can sometimes get dull over time with the build-up of dirt and grime. You can clean your jewelry using a soft cloth. For a slightly deeper clean, you can use soap and warm water and a very soft toothbrush.

We also offer one complimentary cleaning for all of our pieces. Reach out to hello@saintfig.co to arrange for your free cleaning!

Can I clean my enamel jewelry?

Yes! If the color of your enamel jewelry is starting to look a little dull, you can clean it using warm water, a mild liquid soap and a soft cloth.

As with your other jewelry, store enamel jewelry in a cool, dry and dark place and keep away from harsh chemicals, perfumes, detergents and chlorine to avoid damage.
